friends and family
friends and family = giving and taking (respectively)
ever thought of why we treat friends better than family? more tolerance, more accomodating, more time, more smiles, more hugs and kisses, more of almost everything. one thing i am sure family gets more of is LOVE. however, this is hardly shown or expressed. why do we ask more of family instead of giving?
think about it, observe, ask around and many fall into this trap. i wondered about it myself many years back. what i did - make a conscious effort to check that how i behave towards my friends is how i will behave towards my family and it should be better. in a situation, ask myself if it's a friend, how will i react, how will i speak, how will i decide. chances are i will be speaking in a different tone, i will be more accomodating and tolerant and i will be present.
when asked this question: which is more important? friends or family?
many will answer family but how much time do we spend with family? our sleeping hours? i am also guilty of this. family time...watching tv together and doing our own things at the same time? going to gatherings but keeping to our own agenda? are we making a conscious effort to show that we care and to know more about each other? are we all "present" when together?
something to think about and take action on.
